The libraries are a combination of standard, playable patches and pre-arranged chords, falls, effects, rhythms etc. There's loads in the two libraries, but I've used a selection of things in a musical context, as I always find that's the most useful way to judge something. The guitars, double bass and piano are live and recorded by me, but even those are all in the library if you don't have the real thing. The drums, percussion, saxes, bones, horn sections and strings are all from ProjectSAM. I've used my usual mix tastes - Goodhertz Vulf Compressor, Abbey Road Vinyl, Izoptope Vinyl, Waves compressors and EQs, PastToFuture reverb impulses. The CPU Usage Make sure you take full advantage of Reason's very low CPU usage, may depend on your comp. Send effects have their specific uses, of course, but with Reason, you can go pretty crazy with adding effects. So if you have the power, don't be afraid to add some compression, EQ, spreading, distortion or any other effects you like to every channel.

What EQ for lows It's easy to overlook Reason's Mixer EQ, as it is very basic, but even if you end up using an MClass EQ later on, it's still worth applying a bit of quick top-end boost to help something pop out of the mix. The only thing to keep in mind is that the Bass EQ of the MCLASS EQ doesn't handle boost very well, so this should only really be used for cutting excessive bottom end. For the bottom end I suggest you use the MIxer EQ. To red or not to red Reason's mixer handles overdriven signals quite well - better than many other DAWs, in fact.

So don't shy away from pushing something into the red if you think it genuinely sounds good. Of course, I'm not suggesting that you push everything over the top, but you can drive some things far harder than others. CUT reverb Bass The RV7000 Reverb unit is a great Reverb. It has a internal EQ.

Don't forget to use this and cut the low end when the REverb is muddiing up your mix. Add antoher If you plan to automate an EQ with sweeps at a certain point in a track, but have delicate EQ settings for the rest of it, simply use another instance of the device. The same goes for any effect, really. It's far easier to have two devices doing separate things than try to keep track of automation of lots of parameters on the same effect.

Don't hate, duplicate Reason has a very easy way of duplicating your track. This is very good for using it as a sidechain insert or to add other effects to the sound. Expand your horizon The Stereo Imager is a great effect, but be very careful with it, as it can take the punch out of individual sounds. The bottom end is a big part of this, but even top-heavy sounds can fade into the background with too much widening, so only apply large amounts of spread to sounds that are either punchy to begin with or don't need to be. The Hass effect is a great alternitive.

ECHO CUT LOW The Echo is a Delay effect beast. Don't forget to use the filter as it will cut of the low end so it will nog muddy up your mix. Arragment solo After making a nice 8 bar loop. Use the solo funtions in the sequencer to look for some great arranging idears. Hard and fast rules The MClass Compressor is certainly a versatile beast, so make sure that you set it up correctly for each task at hand.

You want much harder and faster settings when using it on individual sounds than you do when using it on your full mix, for example. Check my video on using the compressor on drums. 6 месяцев назад DAWCast of the Symphobia Series music demo 'Show Me Your Wings' with Kontakt and piano roll highlights.

This shows how much you can do with MIDI data. So ignore all those holy mixing talk and work on improving your MIDI-sequencing skills first before starting to worry about mixing and mastering your music The biggest challenge in writing for orchestra is to let all different instruments play different melodies. Most beginner composers create melodies with simple stacked string chords or spiccato patterns as accompaniment.

This 'behind the score' video will show how you can go beyond this way of composing and treat the strings as an individual instrument. Each instrument has its own unique melody that sometimes melts with the other melodies and occasionally takes over the role of the main melody. This way the music will become closer to live orchestra performances of composers like John Williams, Bernhard Herrmann and Howard Shore. For this composition I actually used a theme from Howard Shore's soundtrack from the Lord of the Rings - 'In Dreams'. In this tutorial I will explain how I created this song using ProjectSAM's Symphobia 1 and 2 and give some general tips for composition. I'll also cover techniques I use to create a more realistic sound and to bring more life to the midi instruments.
